Take a look before our category 4 friend Charley comes to pay us a visit:

PS: I did my first home repair: I had to replace a flapper in my toilet. I replaced with a fine Korky Plus Flapper and it works like a charm!

I feel fine

So I just moved from California, where the natural disaster of choice is the earthquake, to Florida, where the hurricane is the prefered method of destruction. While in California, east-coasters would also inquire about the earthquakes. Many people are really scared of them. In the south east of the US, hurricanes cause an enourmous amount of damage each year. In fact, the most deadly hurricane was more deadly than the most deadly earthquake.

I think the earthquake gets extra fear points due to its ability to strike without warning. On the other hand, here in Gainesville, with hurricane Charley heading our way, people don’t seem too worried. Even though, according to this map:

There is a 50-99% chance that Charley pays us a visit in the next 12 hours or so.

When I was a kid, I remember hurricanes heading toward NC and I was never really scared. There was always a morbid fascination, and almost a hope that I would get to see some damage up close. Now, that I own a house, somehow I feel VERY DIFFERENTLY. For some reason, I am not at all interested in seeing Charley up close.

Moving

I have been super busy lately preparing for my big move. I am moving to Gainesville, FL this Sunday morning. It is a bit strange to be leaving LA after 8 years. Buying a one-way plane ticket is something I have never actually done.

I will be moving to 10013 NW 13th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32606. This is the first house I have purchased. Coming from Los Angeles, the idea of living in (not to mention owning) a house, is extremely exciting.

My office will be 337 Larsen Hall, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. That is about all I have time to comment on these days.
