X.org proceeding nicely

Back in February I wrote an article describing X11 development. Since then, most of what I hoped and thought would happen has taken place. Recently Slackware has dropped Xfree86 in favor of X.org (see coverage on Slashdot and OsNews.com).

When you read the X.org 6.7.0 release notes you can clearly see that development is moving quickly. This is why Free Software is so great. It only gets better. If someone (Xfree86) falls down on the job, someone else (X.org) picks up the slack. No vendor lock in.

New Homepage

Well, I have finally decided to start blogging. All the cool kids were doing it in 1999, so I guess I am only 5 years late to the party. I plan to use the blog to point out interesting research and to make comments relevant to any teaching I might be doing.

I will be starting as an assistant professor the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Florida in the fall. I hope the blog will be of use to my students and fellow researchers.
